Getting Rid Of Stuff Feels Good

I've started the "Give Away Ten A Day" Challenge on my IWIL blog (www.intentionalwinning.blogspot.com) and facebook. One of my good friends joined me in this endeavor to simplify our lives by decluttering our homes. Here's what she wrote as she got started.

" I was talking to me yesterday and I asked "self, why all the clutter? What are you holding onto?" Well, that got me into a meditative state and the stuff that came up was HUGE. I actually had a breakthrough. I realized that my "self" was out of harmony with the universe in many more ways than just this cluttered office. I started 'feeling' harmonious and the next thing you know, I was cleaning up this room! Think about it, emotions, grudges, excess weight, debt...it's just STUFF that we HOLD ON TO, not necessary, I say! So let's do this!!!

I love this, and now that I see it articulated, I feel this, too. I'm getting rid of clutter, I'm feeling better about exercise, and keeping busy (physically and mentally), I'm feeling less obsessed with food and eating. What do you think Penny? Laughing! It's just you and me here, and that's okay! Have a wonderful day!

I know just what you mean! I actually started the tradition of getting rid of all the junk that builds up in my house around the Lenten season, giving my clutter to charity. It feels so liberating! I'm not quite sure what it is, but you're right, it feels good and makes me feel more balanced, cleaner, in a way. It's probably good for one's mental health, I'm sure. We should probably do it more often :)

I think that's great! You girls go. I have been getting rid of stuff the last two years. Although you could not tell by looking at my current place. I am off to a swap meet Saturday to get rid of more.

Mike, does going to a swap mean you will get rid of some while bringing some-more home? Ta-ta, not how to declutter! Smiling

My church is holding a free garage sale in June and has been collecting donations for a month now. It's a great way to get rid of your junk while making sure someone who needs it gets it. We had one last year and it was hillarious how people kept trying to pay for things anyway! But agian, great way to get rid of junk (with no swapping!).
